Perspectives on the future of the European Union

Resolving the European Crisis

• High-profile authors from across the political spectrum
• Makes a major contribution to the 'period of reflection' called for by Tony Blair
• Addresses highly topical issues

Following the ‘no’ votes in the French and Dutch referenda, a collection of distinguished authors give their perspectives on the future of the EU and the European Project. Each contributor offers his or her own vision but the book does not campaign for a particular future for the EU. Instead, a broad and diverse range of views about the key issues are presented with original and sometimes contentious arguments.

How can the European project be made relevant to citizens and a European demos be best developed? What is the best way to resolve the tensions between ‘Economic Europe’ and ‘Social Europe’ and to implement the urgently needed reform of the EU institutions and machinery? These key issues are approached by the contributors, who offer near unanimity that the status quo is unacceptable.

The book questions where, when and how the UK’s democratic deficit over Europe can be addressed. Resolving the European Crisis: Perspectives on the future of the European Union contains enlightening views which will further the debate as the UK endeavours to find its place in the European Union of the 21st Century.
